One of the consequences of a felony conviction or domestic assault conviction is the loss of the right to own a gun. For a felony conviction, there is a procedure to apply to the governor for a restoration of this right. However, as a practical matter, this right to bear arms is rarely restored for a felony conviction. Generally speaking, once you have lost your right to own a gun, it is gone.
